Grant Shaps warns of massive penalties for striking railroad workers after strike brings country to a halt

Strike Down

GRANT Shaps warned railroad union barons today that they would crack down on strikes if workers didn't vote . New Government Payment Offers.

London was brought to a standstill today as members of the RMT Union refused to run the tube, forcing it to close.

Yesterday, the state-run railway was also shut down as workers pickedeted stations to protest against their salaries.

The government offered the worker an 8% wage increase over his two years.

However, RMT Union's Mick He Lynch Chairman ignored the proposal without formally asking members to vote.

This morning, Mr Shaps said Section 188 of the Trade Union Act would force him to slap RMT if no vote was taken on the proposal.

This section allows rules to be broken about when a manager may dismiss a staff member "if special circumstances make it not reasonably practicable for the employer to comply" .

Mr Shaps told his Sky News:

"We need to impose modernization, but we encourage our members to do so by offering these offers."

The Secretary of Transportation said a law to force unions to perform a minimum service is "ready and ready". It is expected to be installed by autumn.

He is also preparing to amend the law to allow trains to run without guards.

Mr. Lynch continued to call on the Secretary of Transportation to negotiate directly with him rather than through the railroad operator's network of his rails.

He warned that the strike could last "indefinitely" if Mr. Shaps refused.

The union president said: He doesn't lose a cent as a result of industrial action, so he has no incentive to settle the dispute.

``Millions of voters want the government to allow a fair negotiated solution instead of waging an ideological war against railroad workers.''
