Massive fire breaks out near Heathrow airport, 'explosion' heard

About 70 firefighters are fighting the flames about 10 minutes by car from Heathrow Airport in western London.

There are concerns about homes as trees, hedgerows, shrubs and decks are burning behind many properties on Hereford Road in Feltham.

Some locals claimed on social media that they heard an "explosion" in the area this afternoon.

A video showing a huge flame that rages in the resident's garden has appeared.

Forty-four panicked people called the London Fire Brigade at around 4:35 pm.

Historian Robert Harris saw smoke swirling in the air from his plane when he arrived at Heathrow.

In a video posted online, he states: "I'm landing at Heathrow just before 5 pm today. Burnt fields. It's a fire!"

Another person said on social media: "I just heard something explode.

Third addition:'I and my dad heard almost a big bang, like a bomb or an explosion.

Currently, there are 10 fire trucks on site, assisted by the crew of Hillingdon, Kingston, Southall, Surbiton, Tooting and other nearby fire departments.
