I’m a call centre worker – here’s what actually happens when we put you on hold… it’s not what you think

EVERYONE knows it can take an age to get through to a call centre worker - but many are in the dark about the real reason why.

But one worker has now revealed that while you wait patiently on hold, it may not be for work-related purposes.

Taking to TikTok to share a behind-the-scenes look, call centre worker Ellena Walker answered why you may need to sit on the line "for so long".

Racking up a whopping 230,000 views, the clip shows Ellena's co-worker waiting for her toenail polish to dry as a customer waits on hold.

Captioning the post, Ellena wrote: "If you ever wondered why you get put on hold for so long, we're applying top coat."

Rather than looking busy, the hilarious clip shows the call centre worker sat with her foot under a UV lamp.

"As someone who's worked in a few call centers... 1000%", confirmed one user.

Another commented: "We used to put them on hold and go sit on the balcony to catch 5 minutes".

Other call centre workers revealed what else they get up to - with some even admitting to popping to a drive through while you wait on the phone.

One person confessed: "I used to love putting customers on hold so I could eat my dinner."

"I remember telling a customer to hold while I added my Chinese order to the list," said another.

And alongside their toe-nail painting antics, Ellena said she and her colleague also "used to put them on hold and go Maccies drive thru".

TikTok users were also stunned to discover that Samsung phones have a hidden loophole in a clip that has been liked nearly a million times.

A phone boffin, who runs the TikTok page @gadgetsinnepall, showed users it is possible to find old deleted messages on Samsung devices thanks to a cheeky hidden feature.

And if you struggle to get your mashed potatoes perfect - this TikTok food guru showed viewers the cooking secret to nailing your spuds.
