Liz says texting employees and colleagues after 9pm creates a "poor work culture" I kept saying it was possible and should be avoided.

"When that starts happening, you can get stuck in a vicious cycle of feeling like you have to respond to late-night emails from your boss. I fear it," she warned.

"This is really detrimental. It would be much better if employees and co-workers were completely away from work until late at night. With a few exceptions, no one is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

"For most people, a late-night e-mail or phone call means they've been ambushed by an uncaring friend or colleague, or bad news about a friend or family member who can't wait until morning."

"Most of us recognize the surge of anxiety and fear we experience when we are awakened by a phone call late at night. I certainly don't want to burden you unnecessarily."

Experts added that there is one exception to the late-night text rule. If there is prior agreement that texting after 9pm is acceptable.

But otherwise you will have to wait until morning to launch messages after 8:00 am.

"Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. If you are a true night owl and have a friend who is also an insomniac, they may have agreed to accept late-night text messages.
