Jason Manford teases return of HUGE BBC game show after 21 years off screen

Jason Manford wants to bring back one of the BBC’s most popular ever game shows.

The comedian, 41, would be following in the footsteps of telly legend Sir Bruce Forsyth by hosting the show, which used to be watched by more than 20 million viewers.

In an exclusive interview with TV Mag, Jason revealed the Saturday-night entertainment series he would love to revive.

He said: “The only show I would have a smash at, if it came up, is The Generation Game.

“If that came up again, and they wanted me to do it, I would definitely be up for that.

“I feel like I would be good at it. I’m not a big fan of celebrity shows and all that – I like regular
people.”

The classic game show was originally hosted by telly legend Brucey from 1971-1977, when over 20 million people regularly tuned in.

Larry Grayson took over in the late 1970s and early 1980s, before Bruce returned as host in 1990.

He eventually handed the show over to Jim Davidson in 1995 until it was axed in 2002.

There was a very short-lived revival headed up by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins in 2018.

Contestants would famously compete for a conveyor belt loaded with prizes, including the notorious cuddly toy, with Brucey’s catchphrases including “Didn’t they do well?” and “Nice to see you, to see
you nice!”

Jason revealed his ambition while talking about his new BBC1 show Big Night Of Musicals 2023, which includes performances from the casts of the biggest musicals in the West End.

And if The Generation Game doesn’t happen, there’s another show the comic would be keen on too.

He said: “Maybe You Bet!. Something from my childhood.”
