Macdonald Hotels & Resorts will select seven regional winners, including one dog from Glasgow and the west, with the shortlist then taking part in a public vote via social media in December.

The chosen pooch will become the star of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts marketing campaign for the upcoming year, featuring in all its pet friendly adverts across its website, social media and press activity.

As the official face of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, the canine model will be given the chance to travel to select venues, which are in some of the most picturesque places in the UK, from the sunny Solent Coast to the breath-taking Scottish Highlands.

The campaign follows internal research which showed more guests were seeking to bring their pets on vacation.

Data released by the Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA) in May 2022 found that as many as 77 per cent of households with children have a pet (6.9 million families), which is an increase of 12 per cent on 2021 figures.

While the group has always provided dog-friendly rooms, it plans to expand its offering with a new specially designed food and drink offering, and dog butler service in the coming months.

The new furry face would have a central role in bringing these initiatives to the market.

Peter Llewellyn, of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “Dogs are just as much a part of the family as everyone else, so it’s right that they get to enjoy all the wonderful sights, and smells, that Britain has to offer.

“The pandemic saw a huge increase in pet owners across the UK, and we know from our own insights that more people want to bring their pups with them on holiday.

“This is the ultimate battle of the breeds, and we’re looking for a handsome hotel hound, who can capture the magic of visiting a Macdonald Hotel or Resort and send other dog’s tails wagging.”

To enter, pet owners should submit their images and videos to macdonald@bigpartnership.co.uk or via their social channels.
