Last man who lived in 'Britain's loneliest street' refused to move due to demolition

Nick Wisniewski had hundreds of neighbors, but now he is the last man standing in a deserted residential area.

The 66-year-old has watched 128 apartments slowly vacate as part of a major redevelopment plan for the area. The last residents moved out in December.

Once bustling Stanhope Place in Whishaw, near Glasgow, is now littered with discarded rice cookers, mattresses and washing machines.

"It's like a ghost town now," said his retired TSB bank employee.

"It is very quiet and strange that there is only one person living here."
