On Tuesday, Ms Cheney suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Harriet Hageman in the Republican primary for the general constituency in Wyoming.
The Wyoming Republican, the party's most high-profile and outspoken critic of Trump, was named a member of the House of Representatives on January 6 to investigate the former president's role in last year's Capitol riots. He is also the vice chairman of the association.
Hageman has the endorsement of the former president, and her nomination came in the state where Trump scored the biggest wins in his 2020 election.
"Liz Cheney stood up to a lawless and reckless attack on our country led by Donald Trump, and millions of Americans saw leadership that transcends ideological boundaries," the group said in a statement.
"Liz Cheney, who stood up to Donald Trump and worked to hold those responsible for his violent riots to account, put her political career as a Republican in jeopardy."
The Lincoln Project also described Mr. Cheney as a "principled and dedicated public servant," adding, "No wonder today's Republican Party hates her." ' said.

The Lincoln Project describes itself as a democratic organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and defending democracy.
The group has previously sought to draw attention to the dangersposed if the Republican Party continues to pander to pro-Trump policies after it takes office in 2016.
Cheney, who conceded Tuesday, said the fight to keep Trump out of the White House would continue.
"History has shown time and time again how toxic lies destroy free nations," she said.
