Livingston bosses 'expect' defenders to stay despite admitting they are looking to sell

Livingston boss David Martindale says he expects Jack Fitzwater to stay with the club after the transfer window ends, and if the move doesn't materialize. , the defender wants to sign a new contract with the Lions.

Former West his Brom defender is in the final year of his contract, and Martindale admits he'd rather get the cash than risk losing him needlessly over the summer. This also applies to all of the club's stars entering the final year of their contracts. The list includes midfielders Jason Holt, Stefan Omeonga and skipper Nicky Devlin.

Martindale said: "At the end of the season I nibbled a bit on Jack, but nothing serious lately. I thought Jack would still be here after the transfer window, but I'm honestly surprised.

"Scottish clubs are willing to give money to untested centre-backs in this division when they have young lads who have English passports, have played many premiership matches and performed well. No, I want to sell him and make some money with him.

He added, "We is trying to negotiate with him to get him to extend his contract. There are 3 or 4 people in the same boat.I will speak to their agent when the windows are closed."

``If there is something the boys want to see, I want to give them a chance in this window.
