An "explosion" could be heard before a plume of smoke began rising into the sky in north London.
Witnesses have described a "huge flash of light" accompanied by the sound of a "massive" bang in Hackney Wick tonight.
One resident in nearby Clapton said her living room "flashed blue when it happened".
There is some suggestion the incident could have been caused by lightning.
The Mirror has contacted London Fire Brigade and the Met Office for further information.
