Street performer, 87-year-old man arrested for murder, seen on CCTV buying birthday cards and chocolates

The man arrested for allegedly killing an 87-year-old with a scooter has been named 44-year-old Lee Byer.

His Byer, seen on his CCTV footage released by police, was arrested early this morning in Southall, West London.

One of his local store owners said Byer was buying chocolates and cards for his mother's birthday at his store on Saturday.

"I knew it was him the moment I saw CCTV," he said.

``He came here on Saturday.

''It is terrible that he was arrested. but it was definitely him.”

Buyer with family at Southall address It is understood that they lived for a short time.

At around 1:30 am, more than six police officers smashed the front door of the suspect's semi-detached house with a battering ram, according to local residents.

The police yelled at him to turn himself in before the man appeared and was pushed to the floor and handcuffed.

One neighbor said: I looked outside and saw the police trying to break down the door. They were using some kind of battering ram.

"Some people went in, but no one was there. It lasted about 30 minutes. Then They took the man out.

"They pushed him to the floor and handcuffed him behind his back. Two policemen lifted him off the sidewalk and put him in a car." 59}

Another said: There were also people in plain clothes.

"I immediately thought it must have something to do with the murders in Greenford. I don't know anyone who lives there, but I wave hello. It all came as a bit of a shock."

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood, who is leading the investigation, said: After this horrific incident, he would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support.

"The arrests were made as a result of the release of CCTV images yesterday (Wednesday), and the investigation is progressing well." Remained at the scene of the stabbing with Ford, combing through the hedges, possibly searching for the murder weapon.

He died on the spot.

Popular He Tom was from Ennistimon, County Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Clare's local community expressed "deep shock" after the pensioner's death. He is survived by his family, which includes his sister, two brothers, niece and nephew.
