Man blasts Wickes over £16k new kitchen 'nightmare' after being left 'stressed and upset'

A man has slammed Wickes over a two-month "kitchen nightmare" that cost him £16,000.

HGV driver Chris Dodd ordered a kitchen from the retailer and paid for one of its fitters to install it.

But, he said, instead of taking the estimated two weeks, the job took two months to complete. And when it was done, there were a number of issues with the kitchen.

He told Liverpool Echo : "There were exposed wires and the oven did not work. The fitter also left bags of rubbish on the front. I found the whole matter very stressful and upsetting."

"My mum lives next door so I had to cook my meals at her house. I work away during the week but at weekends I am at home."

Mr Dodd said that he bought the new kitchen from Wickes in February this year. The new kitchen, which he claimed was sub-standard, was fitted in July.

He said he made several complaints to his local Wickes outlet in Birkenhead: "They agreed to send a second fitter who fixed the oven but that cost me another £1,400.

"I would not recommend Wickes to friends and family. It has been a nightmare from start to finish."

A spokesperson for Wickes said: "We are sorry to hear of the issue Mr Dodd has experienced and the inconvenience it has caused, as we always strive to deliver outstanding customer service.

"We are currently working with the installer to arrange for the work to be completed at a time suitable for the customer. Our customer relations team remains in contact with Mr Dodd to ensure this is dealt with quickly and with the best possible care."
