Man City hint at summer transfer exits to key players after Women's FA Cup final defeat

Gareth Taylor hinted at some key player exits in the summer as Manchester City Women finished their season with a disappointing FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.

With players now resting before many compete at the Women's Euro 2022, held in England, attention now turns to building a squad for next season - and keeping players who may be out of contract. Key players like Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway and Caroline Weir are among those reportedly at risk of leaving.

And Taylor suggested that there will be an overhaul of his squad - although he admitted he would prefer to keep the turnover to a minimum.

"Every summer is big, huge," he said. "There's always going to be player turnover. If we can limit some of that we can be in a much better place. Teams who function and operate at a decent level have less 'surgery' in the summer. The game is the game, players have their ambitions or lifestyle that may come into it.

"For us, we're very at the front of trying to secure these players but players go, players come. We want players who want to be here. Those players today, regardless of what happens, showed real character and personality.

In terms of incomings, Taylor struck a more positive tone, saying: "We're really confident, there's always something coming, whether it's a Euros or World Cup or Olympics, it's difficult to get your players together. The demands on players are huge.

"We need to give them some sort of rest and that takes away training time on the pitch to work on cohesion.

"We're proud of the way we play, if you ask the players they enjoy the system. It's trying to arrive in the final third as a team. I'm not saying it's the only way to play, different formulas work for other teams and we respect that. For us, it's exciting, they look at it and think I want a piece of that. We score goals, we're exciting, we play with two wingers, create crosses. It's the way I know."
