Man 'trying to photograph sunrise' dies after being buried alive in sand dunes

A Florida man was found dead after a sand dune collapsed while supposedly trying to capture the sunrise.

Sean Nagel, 37, was found under the sands of Rock Beach on Hutchinson Island.

Stuart's Nagel was discovered by researchers conducting a survey of turtle nests on the beach. Researchers saw parts of their bodies sticking out of the dunes.

Only his feet and ankles were visible in the sand, according to a police report filed by the Martin County Sheriff's Department. I responded to the site in time. The victim could not be revived. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

Authorities believe Nagel died of asphyxiation hours before he was found. They don't suspect any wrongdoing.

"Victim appears to have been resting under a dune while taking video of the sunrise, but the dune collapsed and trapped him underneath," said the Martin County Sheriff's Office. said.

The sheriff's office said it found his GoPro camera next to Nagel's body. They believe he was on the beach trying to capture the sunrise because the camera was pointed east. They did not disclose whether cameras were able to capture Nagel's final moments.

Authorities are still awaiting the results of standard toxicology tests.

"However, these tests are unlikely to change the outcome of this incident as a tragic accident," the sheriff's office said. Several people have died in accidents.
