Man slammed for refusing to ditch booze - even though it makes pregnant wife sick

A man has sparked fury after admitting he wouldn't stop drinking around his pregnant wife, despite it making her physically sick.

Partial to a glass of whisky in the evening, the man says he's being "considerate" to mask the smell on his breath and clothes so that his wife has less of a chance noticing it.

But he claims that even the smallest whiff makes her throw up - forcing her to move into the guest bedroom as she can't even bear to be around him.

Taking to Reddit to explain, the man was seeking validation that he was in the right. However, most people were furious that he wasn't willing to sacrifice his nightly drink for his pregnant wife.

In the post, he said: "My wife (29f) is four months pregnant and cannot stand the smell of alcohol even the smallest whiff from your breath or clothes will send her spewing. I (31m) love whisky in the evening time. I would drink a glass, proceed to brush and use mouthwash so my wife doesn’t barf on me when she sees me.

"Yet, she runs away from me whenever I’m even a metre away because she claims she can still smell it from a mile away. We haven’t even kissed at night due to this and I have tried everything to eliminate the whisky smell. Yet, she still believes she can smell the faint whisky, which makes her lose it completely."

The smell of alcohol triggered feelings of nausea in his pregnant wife

He went on: "A couple days ago, I changed my clothes, showered after it and told her that 'I promise the smell is gone', she proceeds to hug me and quickly runs to the bathroom… to vomit. She comes back to tell me that 'she isn’t coming near me at night until this baby comes out'.

"Proceeds to tell me that she was 'right' and that 'I am being inconsiderate to her introduction to motherhood'. Even though I think I am being overly considerate and trying my best to get rid of this 'whisky scent' that she can apparently smell from a mile away."

He then said that his wife had decided she'd sleep in the guest bedroom for the "foreseeable future". The man concluded: "I told her she is overreacting and that it is quite disrespectful. She told me that she isn’t trying to be any of those things, she just can’t stand the smell of alcohol."

His appeal for validation seemed to backfire, as almost everyone in the comments believed that he was the one being selfish and wrong. One person said: "Why are you more dedicated to your nightly whisky than your pregnant wife?"

And another commented: "Thinking of all the things a woman has to stop eating/drinking/doing while she’s pregnant and he won’t stop drinking his freaking whisky for one night."

A third angry commenter penned: "I am in this exact situation right now except my vice is beer. I gave up beer when I'm around her. You know why? Because she's GROWING MY F****** CHILD. We as men have literally no idea or way of understanding what they're going through and each pregnancy is unique. Stop. It won't be that long I promise. And if you can't stop, please seek treatment."
