Eric Ten Hug leaves David De Gea as first choice and Tom Heaton as backup, but that could change in the final weeks of summer. Didn't leave Old Trafford in 1999 - bemoaning the club for failing to live up to its promise that he would be number one .
The Dutchman is eyeing a goalkeeper who can seriously challenge De Gea for the No. 1 spot. Initially, the club had set aside £1m for him to sign the deputy goalkeeper, butAthletic reports that this has now been raised to £7m, with Tenhag I want good backups.
Once the right players are identified, the fees can be higher as well. Nick Pope moved the club fromBurnley to Newcastle for his £8m this summer. That is within United's budget and they would target a goalkeeper of that quality.
Leeds' Ilian Meslier is believed to be a target, while the Yorkshire club do not want to sell, and the rivalry between the teams further complicates the deal. De Gea enjoyed one of the better seasons last season and was one of United's top performers.
