Meghan Markle has launched a legal bid to stop Thomas Markle being deposed over a defamation claim launched by her half-sister Samantha, over claims made in last year's bombshell Oprah interview.
Lawyers for Samantha reportedly want to depose - testify to under oath or by sworn affidavit - Thomas Markle between October 5 and 21.

Meghan's legal team argue that Meghan cannot be held responsible for statements in Finding Freedom , which was written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

AFP via Getty Images)The filing by Meghan's team, seen by the publication, read: "A deposition of Mr. Markle at this juncture, along with other discovery, would be an unnecessary spectacle and waste of the parties' time, money, and resources.
"[Samantha Markle] should not be permitted to force Meghan and, potentially, numerous non parties to devote substantial resources to extraneous discovery while a meritorious motion that could dispose of the entire case is pending."

According to TMZ, Samantha has previously alleged that Meghan fabricated a story of growing up in "virtual poverty" to bolster her claims of having to deal with leeching family members.
