The Met Office warning is in effect today from 11am to 10pm and covers London and the South East of England. Previously, the area was covered by the Meteorological Service's yellow warning for thunderstorms in southern England. 

It states: 

"Some places miss these, but where they do happen, 30-50 mm of rain can fall within an hour, and in some places It can exceed 100 mm in a few hours, where the storm is slow-moving. 

"Lightning and hail are more hazards. Showers and storms will slow down tonight."
