Minister 'urges' water companies to introduce further hosepipe ban

Environment Secretary George Eustis has called on more water companies to further ban hoses as temperatures soar this week.

August was "abnormally dry", marking the first time a minister has intervened on drought concerns.

Southern Water has already imposed a hosepipe ban on British people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and South East Water will follow suit this Friday, against people in Kent and Sussex. also enforce the ban.

Forecasters predictwarm weatherover most of the UK this week, but dry conditions will persist with little rain or wind.

George Eustice said some companies were already taking steps "right" to mitigate the effects of prolonged dry weather, and others I urged them to take similar measures.
