Mrs Hinch fans praise three kitchen ingredients to kill garden weeds for good

It's finally June, and many Brits are making full use of their gardens to enjoy the nice weather. However, one thing that can ruin your garden experience is weeds – pesky plants that seem to grow where they are least wanted.

As well as looking unsightly, weeds can also sap important nutrients from other plants, shortening their lifespan, so it's important to keep on-top of it.

There are many specifically-designed products that promise to kill off annoying garden weeds, but they are often expensive and toxic and sometimes harmful to animals.

Luckily, a fan of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, has shared three ingredients they swear by for getting rid of weeds quickly so they never grow back. What's more, you'll likely already have these items in your cupboards so you won't need to fork out for expensive products.

The woman came to the rescue of a fellow cleaning fan on the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, who asked: "Best ways to kill/remove weeds and not to grow back?"

The post was flooded with helpful suggestions, with some suggesting pouring just boiling water over the weeds, which worked for them.

However, another helpful social media user shared their three-ingredient concoction, which they said "worked a treat" on their own lawn – one part white vinegar, two parts water and salt. As well as getting rid of weeds, they also said it was "kind to animals".

Another gardener commented saying: "That's what I use too."

Many people also suggested variations of this tip, for example adding just salt and boiling water, white vinegar and water, or adding some washing up liquid in.

You can pick up a bottle of white vinegar for 29p at Tesco, with cheap washing up liquid setting you back just 65p.

A gardening expert previously shared another tip with The Mirror, using an item you might have in your fridge. Fiona Jenkins at Myjobquote.co.uk, the UK's leading trades matching site, said: "Cut a lemon in half and then squeeze the juice over the weed.

"The citric acid in the lemon should kill your weed within a few days. This method is especially effective when there is strong sun shining on the lawn.

"The lemon juice can be used as it is, there is no need to dilute it. Alternatively, you can get some powdered citric acid and mix this with water in a spray bottle. Then, simply spray the weed with the solution."
