Mrs Hinch fans reveal the 5p hack to banish nasty smells from your washing machine

CLEANING FANS have shared an easy way to banish nasty smells from your washing machine, and the best part is it only costs 5p.

A smelly washing machine can be caused by mould, mildew, body oils, hair, or a combination of them all getting stuck in the pipes, seal, or detergent dispenser.

It's not nice and it can often lead to your clothes smelling funky as well.

But Mrs Hinch cleaning fans have shared a 5p cleaning hack to get rid of smelly odours.

Ever since cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, otherwise known as Sophie Hinchliffe, took to Instagram, cleaning tips and tricks have become more and more popular.

There are even Facebook groups where cleaning fanatics share their hacks for getting their homes spotless.

And one woman asked on the Facebook group called Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, to ask for advice on how to get rid of the smell.

She said: "My washing machine has a horrible smell coming from it. The clothes don't smell when coming out of it.

“Have ran a washing machine cleaner through it but can still get a smell. Any tips?"

One wrote: "Pop in a couple of dishwasher tablets on a boil wash it will clean all the outlet pipes as it drains.”

A second advised: "Two dishwasher tablets on a 90°C wash.”

Another person suggested: "Chuck a dishwasher tablet in the drum and put on a boil wash. Leaves it smelling lovely and gleaming.”

Meanwhile, a fourth agreed: "Mine was like this. The pipe was blocked and solid with clothes fluff and the smell was gross. My clothes didn’t smell as long as I took them out as soon as they were finished but if left they smelled too. I clean with a dishwasher tablet once a month now on hot.”

Most homes already have dishwasher tablets lurking around, but if you don't then you can pick some up for as little as £1.34.

A bag of 30 dishwasher tablets by Asda's JUST ESSENTIALS range costs £1.34, which works out at just under 5p a tablet.
