Mrs Hinch fans swear by 95p 'magic' product to remove mould from window frames

Mould is wreaking havoc in British homes this winter. Plummeting outside temperatures are causing condensation to form on windows, which can lead to mould if left untreated.

Luckily, there are things you can do to treat mould, even when it forms. That being said, treating condensation before it turns into mould is always the best option.

If you've got browney-black mould staring at you on the windowsill, all hope isn't lost, as Mrs Hinch fans have found a "fast" way to get rid of it on window frames - and it's really cheap.

Taking to a Facebook cleaning page inspired by the Instagram cleaning sensation Sophie Hinchliffe, one woman asked: "What's the best way to get black mould off a window frame?"

With over 120 answers to the post, the most popular answer was to use Astonish Mould & Mildew spray, which currently only costs 95p at Wilko.

One person said: "The fastest and best way to remove mould or mildew is to use the Astonish mould spray. It’s magic, it only takes 10 minutes to work."

Another added: "I agree Astonish spray, does the job and leaves a lovely clean smell. I have a bottle on the go and a bottle in reserve."

Before using the spray, you need to wipe off any condensation from the window, one user explained.

The comment read: "Astonish mould spray will do the trick. Spray it then leave it a while. Then clean off with soapy water and a cloth.

"I also wipe any condensation away with an old towel when needed. This helps to prevent mould in the first place."

According to the Astonish website, the spray is ideal for use on walls, uPVC window frames, glass, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles, grout, silicone sealant, concrete, sinks and plugholes.

Simply spray on the area where you've got mould, leave it for a few minutes, then rinse or wipe clean.

It's recommended that if you're applying on a vertical surface to spray it onto a sponge or cloth to avoid it running off.

Another savvy cleaner has shared a homemade formula that she claims will banish mould and prevent it coming back.

All you need is tree ingredients – one cup of white vinegar, 20 drops of clove oil, 20 drops of tea tree oil.

Another person took to TIkTok to share how they had banished mould from their home using a Positive Input Ventilation unit installed and the "mould never returned".
