Mum's quick school lunch prep hack to save time in the mornings

Getting your children back to school means a lot of preparation to ensure the little ones are ready on time each morning.

One of the biggest tasks parents must undertake is making school lunches. While it might make sense to batch make all of them for the week in one go, this won't always guarantee they stay fresh and tasty.

However, there are ways you can help to streamline the process and one mum has generously shared her go to tip for saving time.

Known as @thismumcooks on TikTok, she has shared her go to method in a video for batch slicing cheese for school lunch sandwiches, which she claims can "cut a whole block in five seconds."

She explained: "So it's back to school tomorrow, and I'm trying to get as much prep done today to make life easier tomorrow morning, so I'm going to pre-prepare my cheese.

"Slicing cheese is such faff in the mornings. So today I'm gonna slice this block, of around 450g of cheese in half and then I'm just going to pop this through the food processor."

Food processors will typically come with different styles of blade, with one being able to evenly slice cheese rather than grating it.

"How simple is that. I know not everyone's got a food processor but if you do, use it to slice your cheese. It's perfect."

If you don't have a food processor, you can use a standard nose grater.

If you don't own a food processor, a standard nose cheese grater will also have a slicer on one side that can perform this task. It will save time but will require slightly more elbow grease.

It can then be stored in the fridge ready to be used each morning. She concluded: "The sliced cheese is in a pot in the fridge with any leftover bits in a separate pot to go on top of pasta."
