'My best friend wants me to dump my boyfriend so she can date him - I'm tired of her'

One woman has opened up about her best friend's manipulative behaviour, as the pal has admitted that she wants to start a relationship with the woman's boyfriend - despite them being a happy couple.

The pal has demanded that the woman end things with her partner, so she can start seeing him instead, and while this may sound like an extreme request, sadly the woman has experienced this sort of behaviour from her close mate before.

Taking to Reddit to explain the ordeal, the woman, who remains anonymous, explained: "I (22f) have known my best friend (21f) since we were 4. We were like sisters, always together, doing everything together, and since our parents are friends, we could hang out every weekend".

She then went onto explain that her best friend was hugely popular with boys at school, as she was 'pretty' and had the 'best' style.

But the friend's behaviour really impacted the woman's self esteem, as she added: "I used to get very insecure with myself when I was around her, but I don't blame her for anything, it's not her fault she is beautiful. But whenever I gave her a hint I was liking someone, she would say how I had no chance with them, that I should give up, and then after some time she would date them".

Fast forward to the pair's twenties, and the woman has found a partner who she's been happily dating for six months. Sadly, the best friend has decided to belittle the woman yet again, as she's threatening to break up the relationship through jealousy.

"Two weeks ago my friend and I had a 'sleepover' at her house and she caught me texting my boyfriend on my phone, she asked me who he was, I told him he is my boyfriend and she laughed, and asked me since when I had a boyfriend.

"I didn't want to give her too many details about my relationship, I just told her we've been dating for six months and I talked about something else, so we could end that conversation.

"When I went to sleep she grabbed my phone (she knew my password cause [sic] when her phone was dying and she wanted to call someone she would pick it) and went to his Instagram, where she got his user and texted him. She never told me anything, I just found out when my boyfriend sent me a screenshot and asked who she was.

"I was shocked by the messages she sent, they were things like: 'hey, are you [my name]'s boyfriend?' 'You look really nice, are you sure you date her?' She even commented in a picture he took at the gym, saying how hot he looks when he is sweaty".

The boyfriend was shocked by his girlfriend's pal's actions, and reassured the woman that he had no interest in her friend whatsoever. Things only got worse from there, however, as the best friend was still adamant about ruining the couple's relationship.

The woman explained: "She made three fake accounts to text him, I know cause [sic] he told me everything and even showed me all the texts, where she was texting him multiple times, he was leaving her on read and blocking her after some time".

"After the third account she made, she came into my house and complained that he doesn't talk to her. I said she was flirting with him and she knows I'm dating him, obviously I was extremely mad at her, but I was trying to act cool, cause I was really tired and didn't want to start an argument".

The friend wouldn't let it go, however, and the pair started arguing: "She yelled at me, saying he is her type and I should break up with him cause [sic] I'm wasting his time and he could be with someone better (aka her). After some time she started crying telling me if I were her friend I would break up with him, saying I am choosing him over her".

The woman is devastated that her friend is behaving this way, particularly when it's her 'first boyfriend, the only one who showed some interest in who I am'.

She's unsure on whether to end the 10-year friendship, but many people on Reddit have offered advice, criticising the friend's actions.

One person wrote: "Yeah you need to cut her out of your life. This woman is not your friend".

Another added: "I had a friend like this. She always has to one-up me, always chase after the guys I liked even if she had no previous interest in them. It was a sick competitive thing. The only thing to do with friends like this is cut it off. It’s toxic".

Meanwhile, a third said: "She is not your friend. End the friendship and block her. She demeans you, she is trying to steal your boyfriend, she calls you names. Why need enemies with friends like her."
