A major new housing development in Saltcoats has been given the green light by planning chiefs, but concerns have been raised about school children crossing the road.
The 99-house development, submitted by Persimmon Homes, to the north of St Andrews Court was successfully voted through by the Planning Committee last Wednesday.
Saltcoats and Stevenston Councillor Davina McTiernan said: “Has anything been taken into consideration about crossing the main road?"
“We do have a crossing at the traffic lights further on. I wondered if there was any thought about a crossing."
Chief Planning Officer James Miller said: “As part of the application there was no evidence this would be needed.
“If it becomes an issue in the area I would take it up with my roads colleagues.”
Arran Councillor Timothy Billings asked about medical provision for the new house owners in terms of doctors and dental surgeries.
Mr Miller said NHS Ayrshire and Arran had been satisfied by this.
The Persimmon Homes development is located to the north of existing residential areas at St Andrews Court/Clytus Court/Betsy Miller Wynd and to the west of the previous phase of the Sharphill housing development which is currently under construction.
Comprising 99 houses the proposed layout would feature two points of car access, one from Sharphill Road to the east and one from Braga Gardens to the south.
In addition, there would be a road link provided for a potential future development to the west. Internally, the road layout would consist of a main east-west through road with a secondary residential street to the north.

Sixteen different house types are planned.
The development would be made up of detached, semi-detached, and terraced houses with two to four bedrooms.
All houses would be two storeys (with some having additional living space in the attic) would feature a gabled roof design. Some house types would feature integral garages.
A motion from Councillor Billings to approve the application with conditions was passed unanimously.
