New report highlights decline in homelessness in South Lanarkshire

Homelessness in South Lanarkshire has declined over the past year, according to a recent Council report.

At a meeting of the Housing and Technological Resources Board held today (10 August), the Board's annual review of the Rapid Housing Transition Plan was outlined to help reduce homelessness and improve affordability. Various successes were highlighted, such as increased prices for housing.

The Scottish government has made it mandatory for all city councils in 2018 to produce a rapid housing transition plan.

The South Lanarkshire Council plan has been active since 2019 and will continue until 2024.

It builds on the region's well-established framework of partnerships and aims to rapidly respond to homelessness prevention and reduction.

Trustee Davey McLachlan, Chairman of the Housing and Technological Resources Board, said: Organizations have come together to work towards a common goal of addressing homelessness across South Lanarkshire.

The annual review of the plan revealed a number of important improvements.

The number of homeless households he dropped by 21% to 765 by the end of the year. From 969 households in March 2021, he also decreased

long-term homelessness in March 2022, and households living in temporary housing for more than 12 months decreased by 25%.

There was also a 22% decrease in time spent in temporary accommodation by households with children since March 2020/21, and an 8% decrease in children affected by homelessness since 2019. I also outline what I did.

The City Council and its housing association partners are working to increase the supply of affordable housing in the area. It continued to provide a total of 657 additional housing units during the year.

Authorities also continued Ho's successful meStart service, which helped 217 new residents adjust to their homes and community. This includes providing furniture starter packs, financial advice, access to benefits, minimizing fuel costs and preventing the risk of repeated homelessness.
