People exposed to Covid in the US no longer need to be quarantined, CDC says

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no longer requires quarantine for people exposed to coronavirus.

Thursday's announcement comes as part of sweeping changes the CDC is making to his Covid-19 guidelines.

Officials saidthat the decline in COVID community levelshad "significantly reduced the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death compared to the early days of the pandemic."

Now, instead of quarantining, the CDC recommends that exposed people wear a "high-quality mask" for 10 days.

Authorities also recommend that he be tested 5 days after initial exposure.

Greta Masetti said, "Today, we are in a stronger position as a nation to provide vaccinations, boosters, treatments and more to protect ourselves and our communities from the serious illness caused by her Covid-19. We have more tools to protect against." , Director of Field Epidemiology and Prevention at the CDC.

"We also have a better understanding of how to prevent people from being exposed to the virus, such as wearing high-quality masks, testing, and improving ventilation."

Massetti says the pandemic isn't over, but the new guidelines "help us move to a point where Covid-19 no longer seriously disrupts our daily lives."

Additionally, the CDC is now recommending anyone who has tested positive for the Covid-19 isolate for five days only.

“The first five days are likely to be the most contagious. Wear a quality mask when you have to be with others at home or in public.

Currently, the CDC says individuals can exit isolation after five days if fever and other symptoms subside.

Wearing high-quality masks around others is still recommended, as is avoiding immunocompromised individuals and other at-risk groups.

Officials also stressed the importance of staying up to date on coronavirus vaccinations.

"Current vaccines provide less protection against symptomatic infection and transmission than they do against severe disease, and diminish over time, especially for currently circulating variants." said the CDC.
