Percentage of Teens “Almost Always” Online Has Doubled Since 2015

Research confirms teens are spending more time on social media than ever before .

 Number of her 13- to 17-year-olds in the U.S. who said they were online "almost always," according to a new study from the Pew Research Centeris: Almost doubled from 24% in 2014-15 to her current 46%. 

An Ipsos survey conducted online from her April 14, 2022 to her May 4, 2022 surveyed 1,316 American teen respondents.

YouTube is her teen's top online environment among the platforms covered in the Center's new study, as it is used by 95% of her teens.

TikTok is used by his 67% of his teens, followed by Instagram and Snapchat, both used by 6 out of 10 of her teens.

This study shows a change in teens' attitudes, most of whom prefer TikTok over Facebook, which dominated the previous study five years ago.

The percentage of teens who say they use Facebook has now plummeted from 71% to 32%.

While a growing percentage of teens say they use Instagram and Snapchat, platforms like Twitter, Twitch, WhatsApp, Reddit and Tumblr are less preferred .

Teenage boys were more likely to use her YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit, while teenage girls were more likely to use her TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Regardless of their preferred social media choice, 35% of teens said they use at least one "almost all the time."

So it's no surprise that it's hard to give up. Twenty-nine percent of teens who say they use social media too much admit that it is "very" difficult to quit. 

Teenage girls are more likely to say that abandoning social media is difficult, with 58% of girls saying so compared to 49% of boys.
