Police urge people to stop calling 999 to hose-pipe neighbors

People began calling 999 to report neighbors using hose pipes in areas where the ban had not yet been enforced.

This has led police to file petitions asking people not to use emergency numbers, as they are a civil matter, not a criminal matter.

Instead, you should contact your water company.

But now, with so many calls, callers are distracted from the actual emergency.

Devon and Cornwall police said they were already receiving "unprecedented demands" on phone lines over a number of issues this summer, receiving more than 1,000 calls a day. .

Assistant Constable Nikki Reaper said:

"All of these issues need to be addressed by other agencies. We have a list of these agencies on our website, so please check online before calling. '

The region's provider, South West Water, said the ban would go into effect on Tuesday to protect dwindling supplies.

The region has been in the past. Eight months of almost no rain, July was the wettest in almost 100 years and the first ban in 26 years.

Thames Water, which supplies water to 15 million people, also falls in August. Welsh Water, Southern Water, South East Water and Yorkshire Water joined Welsh Water, Southern Water, South East Water and Yorkshire Water in banning the use of hosepipes on the 24th.

A spokesman for the National Police Commissioners' Council said:

"Public concerns about possible violations should consider advice from water utilities." If you do, you could face a fine of up to £1,000. It's been taken to court, but the water company says it prefers "education to compulsion."

We encourage people to report their neighbors if they find them repeatedly violating prohibitions.
