One of the lines of inquiry investigators are looking at is whether the dog is to blame, and with that in mind, there are many questions about dog owners and people walking their dogs in the countryside. We want to remind people who are living with animals to keep their animals under control.

Inspector Andrew Bushell said: Attacks on livestock are a priority for us and we are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened.

“Farmers have a legal right to protect their livestock, which can result in their dogs being killed. It's easy to avoid if you keep it under control at all times and don't trespass on fields where livestock are grazing.Scotland's outdoor access codes require dogs not to be brought into fields with lambs and other young livestock.

"The officers are also in contact with local partnerships against rural crime groups. We are working with our partners to raise awareness of this topic and We are conducting engagement patrols with dog owners.”
