Rangers handed Liverpool shock blueprint but Kris Commons fires '10 out of 10' warning

Kris Commons reckons Rangers have the tools to upset Liverpool - but warned they'll need flawless performances across the board to pull it off.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side face a massive Champions League on Tuesday as they head for Anfield and a tantalising 'Battle of Britain' showdown with last season's finalists. Jurgen Klopp's team have not had their troubles to seek for this term - sitting 10th in the Premier League and still smarting from a 4-1 drubbing from Napoli in their group stage opener.

The Reds can ill-afford another bad result when Rangers come to Merseyside but Commons senses an opportunity for the Ibrox men to deliver something special. But the former Celtic star reckons that while Liverpool aren't the relentless juggernaut of the last few seasons, every Rangers player will need to produce a 10 out of 10 display if they're to return to Glasgow with a result.

He wrote in his Daily Mail column: "Rangers will need to be ten out of ten in every position across the pitch to stand any chance of getting a result against the six-time European champions. They will certainly need Antonio Colak to maintain his good form up front because, if any chances do come along, they need to be sharp and make sure they take them.

"Colak scored another two goals in the 4-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday and he deserves to keep his place in the team ahead of Alfredo Morelos. If Rangers can go to Anfield and get a result, it would be right up there with the win in Dortmund in last season's Europa League. Some people will write them off.

"A lot of people probably said the same about Celtic when they faced Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in 2016 \u0097 and they drew both games. Liverpool's defence has been firmly in the spotlight over the opening couple of months of the new season and that's something which should give Rangers confidence.

"Van Bronckhorst's side will need a huge improvement from their last away game in the Champions League when they were battered 4-0 by Ajax in Amsterdam. They gave a much better account of themselves against Napoli at Ibrox and were playing reasonably well until the red card to James Sands changed the game.

"The Rangers fans would love a result. This is a Battle of Britain and a fixture that everyone was looking forward to as soon as the draw was made.

"Making a fast start is vital. Brighton showed at the weekend what you can do if you're positive and look to set about this Liverpool defence. They will give you chances, especially with the incredibly high line and offside trap that they deploy.

"Rangers should look to use the pace of Kent and whoever plays on the other wing to exploit that. If he's on form, he could give Trent Alexander-Arnold all sorts of problems. If they turn Liverpool over on their own patch, it would surely go down as one of the most famous nights in the club's history. Making a fast start is vital and they will give you chances."
