Residents of Renfrewshire sheltered homes enjoy the great outdoors with new tricycle launch

A group of Renfrewshire sheltered-housing residents can now enjoy the great outdoors thanks to the launch of a new tricycle.

The launch of a new tricycle, funded through Sustrans Scotland's Scottish Greenways Program, has helped tenants of sheltered homes rediscover beloved local green spaces.

Forever Young Community Group, a group of sheltered residential tenants in Renfrewshire, has launched a new electric bike-powered Trishaw.

Tricycles were made available so that Forever Young Group members and local seniors could access nearby bikes. became. Relive memories as you travel through the traffic-free section of Route 7 of the National Cycle Network to visit nostalgic locations previously inaccessible.

This project was made possible by the Sustrans Scottish Greenways Program, Forever Young, Renfrewshire Council and Own Yer Bike.

Forever Young founder Sally Logan of her Renfrewshire Council explains:

"But then the pandemic hit and they became less mobile.

"We thought we needed to get them back into the fresh air

"When I read about Glasgow Green rickshaws, I thought this would be a great way to bring tenants back outdoors."

It is hoped that the trishaw purchase will allow residents to see places they have been unable to go for years and fight social isolation.

Tricycles are Powered by an electric bicycle, it is easy and comfortable for passengers to ride.

There are also storage drawers under the seats, and the tricycle will be used in the future to assist residents with reduced mobility to purchase groceries.

Sustrans Greenways Development Coordinator Ros Gibbons added: "The smiles and laughter at the launch event say it all.

"Trixie the tricycle is used a lot.

"It was an honor to work with the community on this project."

New Trishaw The Forever Young Community Group

At the launch event, Own Yer Bike volunteers took Forever Young members on trips along nearby traffic-free National Cycle Network routes.

Tennants enjoyed rides along trails and explored local places that were previously too far to reach.

One Forever Young Group member said, "This is really good. It's been really fun."

Another described the ride in the Trishaw as "fantastic".

Forever Young Group has secured funding for a tricycle through Sustrans Scotland's Greenways program.

The Scottish Greenways program listens to and works with communities to make the traffic-free National Cycle Network routes more attractive, attractive and accessible for all. It promotes walking, biking and wheeling.

Sally added:

``They told me how much they enjoyed riding tricycles and hoped to learn to ride one soon. We hope that tenants and community groups will be drawn to roads free of traffic and open to other community groups using trishaws.”
