Residents evacuated after 'deliberately' set fire to Glasgow apartment, man arrested

GlasgowOccupants were evacuated after a 'deliberate'fire at a flat. Shortly before 2pm today, an alarm was raised due to reports of a fire on Vaira Street in the city's Ramhill district.

Emergency services, including the Scottish Policeand the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the property and the surrounding homes were told to leave for safety reasons.

Hero firefighters remain on site for the evening, roads have been blocked, motorists and pedestrians urged to avoid the area, and efforts to contain the blaze continue.

No one is known to have been injured or taken to hospital. However, a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which police consider to be "deliberate".

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:

A Scottish Police spokesperson said: Glasgow.

"Occupants of surrounding facilities were evacuated and no one had to be taken to hospital. The fire was treated as intentional. A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

"The road is now closed and we ask people to avoid the area."
