Scottish career criminal jailed again last month dies behind bars in HMP Perth

A serial offender jailed last month for carrying an offensive weapon in public has died inside a jail inHMP Perth. Michael Burza,, from Kenoway, Fife, , was serving an eight-month prison sentence when he died Thursday, August 4.

How he died is unknown, but a fatal accident investigation will continue until his death. The 37-year-old was sentenced on July 13 in Kirkcaldy Sheriff's Court.

Six-month sentence for assault, obstruction, or preventing emergency workers from trying to do their job. He was also jailed for two months for carrying an offensive weapon.

Earlier this year, on March 8, he was convicted of threatening or abusive behavior and was jailed for six months.

Burza had a long criminal record. In 2018, he was convicted of stealing a purse from an elderly woman at the Kingdom shopping center in Glenrothes, which contained just over £5.

The Scottish Prison Service said Burza's death had been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Accountant.

According to a Scottish Prison Service statement, “HMP Perth prisoner Michael Burza, 37, died on 4 August 2022.

“Mr Burza died in 2022. He was convicted in Kirkcaldy Sheriff's Court on .Police Scotland have been advised and the matter has been reported to the Prosecutor's Accounts.An investigation into the fatal accident will be held in due course."[37] }
