St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson is patiently waiting for a new striker

Callum Davidson believes St Johnstone will be looking for some extra firepower in the forward division heading into the final week of the transfer market.

The Perth manager has previously said he would welcome the addition of another striker to strengthen his scoring options.

Theobea and Stevie He May has been tasked with leading the line so far this season, while Chris Kane continues to recover from his knee problem.

"We are all aiming very high and we want to get the best striker we can get," said Davidson, who is gearing up for Saturday's match against Aberdeen.

"Good strikers are hard to come by, so you have to be patient. See who's available and try to be in the right place at the right time." 11}

"We need to make the team better no matter who comes in.

"This is the time after the preseason and a few games, when everyone evaluates the team.

“We need to keep talking to people to make sure we can do something when things change.

“I am very happy with the team we have now.

The Saints have three points from their first three games and are ninth in the Premiership standings.

The Dons, with a heavily modified line-up under manager Jim Goodwin, sit on the same total.

They arrive at Fair City after his 3-2 loss at home to Motherwell. Meanwhile, the Saints are recovering from a 4-0 loss to Ibrox.

"I've seen Aberdeen a few times," said Davidson. "They are a really attacking team.

"They try to keep their full-backs very high and their wings on the inside.

"We need to defend properly. But on the contrary, we are at home and we have to put pressure on them in the final third.

"Aberdeen are a good team and they have spent money.

} "I expect them to challenge Hearts for third place. Their fans will expect it too. It's Aberdeen. They're one of the biggest teams in Scotland.

"But we want to put the pressure on and take three points on Saturday."

Murray-Davidson has completed his two-game suspension and now has a choice.

Fellow central midfielder Cammy McPherson, who limped in the Ibrox loss, is injured and the Saints are still not 100% sure how long he will be out.

As reported earlier this week, an early diagnosis of a thigh injury means he could be missing for three to four weeks.
