Stephen Tompkinson was accused of 'causing serious physical harm to his father'

Stephen Tompkinson allegedly beat his father so badly that he fractured both skulls.

The 56-year-old actor has been charged with causing serious bodily injury and faces criminal trial.

The incident is reported to have occurred outside the house where Whitley in his Bay of North Tyneside lived last May.

Stephen faces charges for his GBH which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison if convicted.

However, the actor denies the charges.

The alleged victim is said to have had a double fracture in his skull, which is why he is unable to work.

Prosecutors alleged that the actor "unlawfully and maliciously caused serious physical harm."

He appeared in North Tyneside Magistrate's Court earlier in the month and pleaded not guilty.

According to The Sun, the charges have been sent to court for trial by a jury.

The Mirror has reached out to a representative of the actor for comment.

A spokesman for the British Public Prosecutor's Office told the publication that the actor appeared before a magistrate on his August 10th.

A spokesperson explained: Crown his court on Wednesday, September 7th.

Stephen is known for his role as DCI Alan Banks in his DCI Banks in theITV series.

He also appeared in Wild He at He Heart as Danny Trevanion in Trackers, Malachi in Trackers as Davis and Toro Reid Brian, and Davey in The Split as Mackenzie. .
