Sterling Albion looking for first league title of the season

Sterling Albion welcome neighbor Stenhousemuir to Forcebank tomorrow as they seek their first victory of the League Two season.

Darren Young's side lost 2-0 to Dumbarton on day one and drew 2-2 at home to Elgin City last weekend. Robert Thomson and Aaron Dunsmore.

Stephen Swift's Stenhousemuir won 1–0 on his final visit to Forthbank in March.

Sterling striker Dale Carrick was sidelined with injury against Elgin City but is expected to be available, with winger Danny Denholm returning to the squad. Midfielder Ross Davidson remains out and left-back Cammy Clarke remains suspended after receiving a red card at Dumbarton. Young urged his team to clean up mistakes that left them two goals behind in the first half against Dumbarton and Elgin City.

He said:

"There were times when we played well, but it was clearly not possible to give the team two goals in the starting line-up. The first goal is always important and we got it on Saturday. I hope we can, we have neither Cove nor Kelty nor Queens Park in League 2 this season.

"We have good players but we are still looking to add some. For some reason, everyone is facing a tough market this year.”

Meanwhile, Vinos will compete in the second round of the SPFL Trust Trophy on August 23/24. They will face Highland League Brechin City at Glebe Park. After drawing 1-1 on Wednesday night, the Andy Kirk-led team won 4-1 on penalties where he defeated the Hibs B team in the first round.

If successful, Vinos could face a cross-border opponent in the third round of the tournament on September 24th. Northern Ireland's Linfield and Cliftonville, as well as Welsh clubs New Saints and Carnarvon Town, are participating in the competition this season.
