Strictly fans complain minutes into first live show as Kym Marsh opens 2022 series

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left complaining minutes into the first live show.

The BBC One Latin and ballroom competition returned to our screens this weekend, with Coronation Street star Kym Marsh taking to the dancefloor to open the show. Kym and her partner Graziano Di Prima danced the Jive to Yes by Merry Clayton.

However, whilst fans were thrilled to see the show back, they had one complaint to make as the live show kicked off. Kym and Graziano were given some positive feedback and constructive criticism as they stood in front of the judges.

Frustrated Strictly fans took to Twitter to vent over the decision for Kym to do a Jive in the first week.

"Jive on week one always feels a bit harsh to me. Thought Kym did well being first as well. Lots of potential once the nerves reduce a bit! #Strictly," one wrote, as another added: "Wow to be given Jive week one that’s really tough for anyone to get #Strictly."

A third shared: "Always think a jive in the first week is unfair," with a fourth writing: "Why are they doing a jive on week 1?! #strictly."

Others, though, defended Kym for her performance - and said she was dealt a hard first week especially with it being a jive and her being tasked with opening the entire series as the show marks its 20th anniversary.

"I enjoyed that Jive it's a difficult dance for Week 1 Kym did well. #Strictly," another shared, whilst one wrote: "It was a good start for Kym. She definitely needs learn how to speed up though because that was a little slow for Jive. #Strictly."

A fan penned on social media: "That was a difficult dance for a series opener, and the music choice was strange. Not a particularly great jive but a decent first effort. Shame the audience are back, clapping along almost in time with the music #Strictly."

Strictly Come Dancing returned to screens tonight for its first live show, and fans were thrilled to see it back - and with a full audience for the first time since the Covid pandemic.

The group will also return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom for a very special episode of the show. It will be the first time they're back in Blackpool in three years due to the restrictions.
