He tweeted: "Not sure if the painting is here to reassure me! See you on the other side hopefully."
Adding: "To anyone who’s had a full knee replacement and got through the first night fair play.. insane pain"
Fans were quick to offer support and comfort to the Rugby star.
With one fan saying: "Well worth it though, doing the physio is key (I am sure you are used to that). Soon back on the bike. Kneeling down though is a different issue."
Another offered their advice: "My husband was advised in addition to the regular exercise programme, to use an exercise bike 2 week post op. Start with the seat up high and gradually lower the seat, thus increasing the bend in the knee. It's very effective."
Another commented: "First two weeks the worst Austin, rapid improvement after that. Keep on the pain medication and get moving as much as you can. 12 days into my second one, life changing once it is healed."
"Wish you a speedy recovery," another fan said.
While another echoed: "Get well soon Austin! I feel for you."
Austin became the twelfth contestant to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing in 2008.
The rugby ace and his dance partner Erin Boag were voted off after finding themselves in the bottom two for the first time in the competition.
The star is happily married to his wife Louisa and they share four girls together.
