Teacher strike: Every Ayrshire school that's closing next week as new strike day arranged

Secondary schools across Ayrshire are to close next Wednesday as teachers take strike action over pay.

Local authorities in East, South and North Ayrshire have this afternoon laid out plans for Wednesday, December 7 when industrial action is taking place.

The strike by Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) follows on from a national one-day strike by the biggest teachers’ union, the EIS, last Thursday.

Ayrshire Live have compiled a list of which schools will be closed across East, South and North Ayrshire next Wednesday:

East Ayrshire

All secondary schools and Park School will be closed to pupils on Wednesday, December 7 due to planned industrial action.

All other ASN establishments and Early Childhood Centres will open as normal.

It is hoped all primary schools will remain open and East Ayrshire Council are working on arrangements for pupils who require access to a free school meal.

Parents and carers will be advised of the plan for this in due course.

South Ayrshire

Five out of eight secondary schools in South Ayrshire will close.

The following will be fully closed on Wednesday, December 7: Prestwick Academy, Ayr Academy, Kyle Academy, Belmont Academy and Queen Margaret Academy.

Marr College will be closed to S1, S2 and S3 pupils only.

Carrick Academy will be closed to S1, S2 and S3 pupils only.

S4, S5 and S6 pupils should attend Marr College and Carrick Academy as normal on Wednesday, December 7.

Girvan Academy will be open as normal, alongside all Council run primary schools, early years centres and special schools.

Families with pupils who normally receive a free school meal will receive a payment for every eligible pupil affected by the industrial action.
