Scottish trade union says teachers may object to 'extremely disappointing' salary offer

Scotland's largest teachers' union says the revised 3.5% wage proposal is 'very disappointing',whether it is willing to take industrial actionwas likely to get union members to vote.

EIS said the offer would be viewed as an insult by teachers. The union rejected her 2.2% wage offer in June and the Scottish Teachers Bargaining Board filed a claim for her 10% wage on behalf of the profession.

It happens when other City Council officials inScotland threaten to go on strike over a wage dispute.

On Thursday,Edinburgh waste and recycling workers launched an 11-day strike duringthe capital's busy festivals.

EIS General Secretary Andrea Bradley said: Their employers are once again proposing slashing their real wages, even though they are supposed to be paid fairly for the important work they do.

"As the cost of livingcrisis continues to worsen, with inflation now above 10% and still rising, teachers as essential public sector workers

"Cosla and the Scottish Government must commit to providing Scottish teachers with fair wage arrangements. This is a significant improvement over the current proposal.

"EIS has sent a letter today to its members to update them on this meager proposal and to pursue a fair payment solution."

The EIS payroll committee is scheduled to meet next Thursday, at which point the agency will formally reject the 3.5% proposal.
