A teenager died of a stab wound after calling a passerby for help.

Police were called after reports of an attack in East London and upon arrival found a man in his "late teens" with stab wounds.

He added: I think he was already dead when the police came. They tried for about 10 minutes...there was blood everywhere.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command said: No family should endure this terrible tragedy. He was attacked in broad daylight on a busy highway one summer Saturday afternoon.

"We know this will shock and upset the local community. We assure you that we will do everything we can to identify and bring those responsible to justice."
