X Factor winner Joe McElderry says show needs to be 'safe place' amid all documentary rumors

Joe McElderry talks about the possibility ofX Factor returning to the screen, hoping the new run will be different for the contestants.

McElderry won the sixth season of the singing competition show in 2009 before scoring a number one single with her cover of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb."

Since then, the show has been accused of being "cruel" and "manipulative". Canceled in.

When asked about rumors that the program might be revived, McElderry offered suggestions for a new season to improve upon the past.

"When it comes back, I hope they will make more changes to make it a little bit safer place for artists in terms of how contracts are formed and aftercare for artists and things. That like," he told the host of the Fubar radio show Access All Areas, Mail Online reports.

He continues: That's not all.

"I think changes are being made, but I think there's still a long way to go. So if it comes back, it's being made in a safe place for the benefit of the artists who are on the show."

Earlier this month, it was reported that work was currently underway on the program to expose allegations of bullying, exploitation and harassment on the show.

The Independent has reached out to a spokesperson for The X Factor for comment.
