Thornton Heath Explosion: A Red Line on Gas Horror at Blast Site

Local resident Delroy Simms, 62, Kutoya Kukanda , 50, has been dubbed a "hero" after rescuing three children from a house shortly after an explosion.

Sims, in pajamas by the cordon, said:

"That gas has been smelling so strong all week that I already knew what it was. It gave me a headache yesterday.

"My neighbors have been calling them (the gas engineers) all week." The smell was so strong, he said, "I could taste it."
