West of Scotland League good start continues as Slieve Rovers beat Campbelltown students

Threave Rovers are enjoying life in the West of Scotland League.

Castle Douglas' side scored every goal before the break in a 4–0 victory over Campbeltown after a win over Glenvale in the opening game against Papyrus.

Boss Vinnie Parker said: The first half was full of variety, starting with different moves and scoring different kinds of goals.

"They didn't want to go a long way after losing 8-0, so they sat with nine or ten men behind the ball.

``It meant a spell of long possession. 3 points and they were firmly secured.

"We asked the boys to play relentlessly, but if they were all sitting behind the ball, it would be an additional 4 points. It's not always easy to get ~5 points.

"They were really physical and parked the bus. Glenvale will come after us and try to pressure us." Last week, it showed that not all teams in the league are the same. They were very physical on Saturday, but we have boys who are streetwise and can handle that side of the game.”

Dylan after being teed up by Alex Henderson. Cairney gave Sleeve the lead early on. The second arrived midway through the first half, with a Dean Brotherston cross for Henderson to score.

Ryan Coates scored his third goal and half-time loomed, but Brotherston still had time to finish the first half with his 4-0 lead.

Threave are looking to continue their free-scoring fashion at Thorn Athletic on Saturday against another team they barely know.

Parker said:

"I asked people what their team looked like. , they recruited people over the summer, so we can't get a good measure of what it's going to be like."

Another team that Sleeve knows little about is , Syngenta of the East of Scotland League.

They were handed a trip to the Grangemouth-based team in the qualifying rounds of the Scottish Cup scheduled for 27 August.
