Conservative MSP accuses SNP of presiding over police cuts in Lanarkshire

Lanarkshire's MSP has accused the SNP government of overseeing a reduction in the number of frontline police officers in Lanarkshire.

His MSP Graham Simpson of the Central Scottish Tory calls 900 people across Scotland since the SNP integrated the police into the Scottish Police. Lanarkshire now has 132 fewer police officers than it did nine years ago when the SNP Minister created Police Scotland, but last year saw 41 fewer police officers.

The SNP government treated police officers with 'disrespect' and failed to keep promised expenditures for the police budget.

His MSP in the Conservative and Unionist Party accuses the SNP of consistently letting down Lanarkshire cops, getting more bobbies on the beat, and more community supported his party's plan for a local police law to have a community of Say it at your local police station.

Conservative MP Graham Simpson told Lanarkshire Live:

``It is shocking to see such a decline in local police in the region since the SNP Minister integrated forces into the Scottish Police in 2013. Sadly, the trend is continues quarterly.

``But it is not surprising that the SNP government has treated our hardworking officials with such contempt. withdrew their bona fides after derisive offers of reward were made."

2013 Since 2013, the number of police officers in local police stations has fallen by 937, down from 13,008 to 12,071.

Mr Simpson added. : ``The SNP minister should not have reached such a stage and reduced the number of police officers to this extent.This will only increase the risk of crime in communities across Lanarkshire. People want to be reassured that there is a strong police presence in their area."

A spokesperson for the Scottish government said: “Police presence is a matter for the chief constable, but the number of national police forces over the past 15 years has been at historically high levels.

"Our numbers of officers are also favorable compared to the rest of the United Kingdom. In Scotland we have about 31 officers per 10,000 population, while in England we have about 24 and Wales as of March 2022.

``We will invest more than £1.3 billion in policing each year over the next four years to build our capacity for sustainable excellence.'' We will continue to support them.”
