Two blokes claim they were denied nightclub entry because they were Welsh

An nightclub has come under fire for allegedly refusing entry to two men because they were Welsh.

Jonathan Lloyd from Wrexham and a friend were queuing to get into MooMoo Clubrooms in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

They were visiting the seaside town to watch Southend United v Wrexham on Saturday, September 17, but fancied a night out afterwards, North Wales Live reports.

They had been recommended the club by some Southend fans and headed out smartly dressed and not in football kits.

However, while waiting in the queue and chatting to other clubgoers, Jonathan claims a bouncer suddenly went up to them and asked if they were Welsh.

The men were reportedly stopped from entering MooMoo club in Southend-on-Sea

When the pair said they were, the bouncer immediately said they wouldn't be let in.

Jonathan insists that they were refused not because they were Wrexham fans, but because they were Welsh.

"We were standing in the queue, if he hadn't heard our accents we would have got in, so he basically didn't let us in because we're Welsh.

"We went back later on and tried again and the same doorman said 'are you the Welsh boyos," he told North Wales Live.

North Wales Live contacted the club to try and verify what had happened, and they are now investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for MooMoos told them: "We do not condone discrimination of any form in our venue.

"We have raised this alleged incident with our third-party contracted door team and an investigation is underway."

Earlier this month, a woman from Birmingham was told to cover up her outfit or she wouldn't be let in a club, allegedly because of her size.

"One of my friends had a mesh dress on, you could see her bra and pants. And my other friend had her stomach on show, but it was only a problem with mine because I’m a bigger girl," she told Birmingham Live.

The woman was forced by the bouncers to wear a baggy denim jacket to 'cover up' before she was then let in, but the experience left her feeling "humiliated".
