Pictures from the scene show a cordon in place outside the venue with a large crowd stood around. A woman can be seen sat on the pavement, wrapped in blanket, apparently being treated by a firefighter.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said:" Just before 10pm this evening (Friday 27th May), three fire engines from Gorton, Moss Side and Withington were called to reports of a building fire involving a bar on Wilmslow Road, Rusholme. Crews quickly arrived at the scene.

"Firefighters using four breathing apparatuses and two hose reels worked to extinguish the fire. Two people were treated at the scene by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

"Firefighters are still in attendance and have been at the scene for around one hour."

GMFRS has not named the venue.
