UK weather forecast: Another wet and windy week as stormy weather moves across Atlantic

Britain will be battered by high winds and heavy rain again this week as more stormy weather makes its way across the Atlantic.

Precipitation is expected in most areas of the country every day of the week, according to maps from WXcharts, with northern areas expected to see the heaviest downpours.

Around 11mm of rain per hour could fall in the Northern Ireland and highlands of Scotland on Monday into Tuesday, while another band of adverse weather from the Atlantic will likely stretch down to northern England and parts of the Midlands on Wednesday.

Some showers and high winds are also forecast in the south throughout the week.

Into the weekend, Saturday will stay dry for most before a further round of rainfall on Sunday.

The grim forecast comes on the heels of a stormy week for the country, which meteorologists attributed to the knock-on effects from Hurricane Ian across the pond.

Heavy rainfall towards the end of last week means one flood alert remains in place for the UK at Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water in the Lake District.

The picturesque location has experienced elevated lake and river levels throughout the weekend, and these are not expected to fall until Monday

Authorities have asked locals to avoid using "low lying footpaths and any bridges" near local watercourses, and they have been told not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.

Debris is also being cleared by the Environment Agency to lessen the risk of flooding to nearby roads.
