University Challenge question writer slams new host Amol Rajan as BBC's 'bad decision'

The question creators of the UNIVERSITY Challenge blamed the BBC for a "bad decision" on new host Amol Rajan.

39-year-old Amorwon the University Challenge on Thursday, just days aftercurrent host Jeremy Paxman announced he was stepping down. Confirmed as a new hostlater this year.

His Amol, a journalist and broadcaster, will take over the host job starting next year, but the show's former researcher wasn't too thrilled with the news.

Earlier in the week, Lillian Crawford announced that her former stand-by-her presenter had seen Samira Ahmed emerge as the new host, and at first she was "thrilled." shared that

She tweeted: "It hurts to sit back and watch this University Challenge. We were so excited to have Samira as our new host, but the Beeb officials chose someone else.

"If that's who I believe, it's a bad decision."

She then added: I'm no longer on the show.

However, although it turned out that the name she had heard was not Amor's, Lillian was even less impressed with his appointment than she had thought. } After the official announcement, she said: This is worse. A man who praised TERF for his "bravery" is taking over one of the biggest queer/trans representations on television.

"This sends a clear signal and undermines a lot of the work that has been done to make all students feel welcome and safe." 27}

Amol wrote at the time: They even attack human rights, which they claim is a form of discrimination or hate speech.”

I added, but added:

At the time the BBC stated: Having read Rowling's essay, she acknowledged the seriousness of the discomfort some people had received from her writing. It didn't detract from it when I objectively admired her honesty in speaking about it, and the courage it took to express a point of view knowing that it would lead to further online abuse."
